New Film, “The Blind Bastard Club”
Written by on February 16th, 2011

The Berlin Film Festival always brings a ton of news as independent producers shop around for pre-sales, and the latest project to be revealed is an intriguing, if odd-sounding drama, with an eclectic cast. Screen Daily reports that Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson and Lenny Kravitz are all attached to star in “The Blind Bastard Club,” which will begin filming in April.

The project follows a group of blind people “who live life on the edge… going to the shooting range, jumping out of planes, getting into fights in bars, and pretending they’re not blind.” Central are Jake, the group’s leader, and Angel, a rollerblading call girl, who “both look to make the ultimate sacrifice for love.” There’s no word on exactly which roles Kravitz, Rourke and Dawson will take, as well as fellow cast members Rodrigo Santoro (”300”) and Riccardo Scamarcio (”Romanzo Criminale”), but our guess is that Kravitz will play Jake, and Dawson will play Angel.

Rising director, and cousin of Borat, Ash Baron-Cohen (”This Girl’s Life”) will direct the film, which was originally to be filmed in New Orleans, but will now go before cameras in Brazil, where Kravitz is a megastar, with Donald K. Ranvaud (”City of God,” “Central Station”) executive producing.

With the exception of Kravitz, who hasn’t quite convinced us as an actor, it’s a strong cast, and frankly, the more films Kravitz makes, the less time he spends in the recording studio, so we’re prepared to make that sacrifice. With shooting starting in April, we imagine this’ll surface in theaters sometime in 2012.

Rosario Dawson Wants to Collaborate on a Fashion Line
Written by on November 22nd, 2010

Spring is in the air—fashionwise that is. Tod’s celebrated their spring/summer collection with a lunch in Beverly Hills on Friday benefiting The Museum of Contemporary Art. Hosted by creative director Derek Lam, the ultra-glam event drew some of Tinsletown’s finest fashionistas including stars like Rosario Dawson, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kelly Lynch, who epitomized the brand’s classically-chic style as they sipped champagne and shopped Tod’s Beverly Hills location. “I love getting the insider [look] because I get to get a little shopping done in advance,” said Dawson, who was clad in Dolce & Gabbana and Tod’s. “That’s the key and it’s time for Christmas shopping.” The preview also got the Unstoppable star thinking about dabbling in her own fashion career, telling PEOPLE, “Oh yeah, I would totally collaborate on something. I think that would be so fun, especially something short-term,” adding that she would design with her own body type in mind.”I don’t have really big hips or anything, so I always fit smaller on the bottom but the top I always have to let out.” As for Lam, who just signed on for another two years with the Italian fashion house, inspiration for the new collection fit within the spring aesthetic. “The colors were inspired by flowers,” he said, “Gardening shoes I love, like the croc mixed with the garden soles. I think Tod’s is about the Mediterranean style everybody aspires to don in the most modern, classic [way].”

‘Sin City 2′ Will Pay Tribute To Brittany Murphy, says Rosario Dawson
Written by on October 28th, 2010

At this point in the “Sin City 2″ news cycle, it’s not too much of a stretch to say that we’ve heard it all before. Robert Rodriguez can’t wait to start! All the cast members are ready to go! Etc., etc. Still, we have hope! And it doesn’t stop us asking key participants like Rosario Dawson what they’ve heard about a possible start date.

“I have not heard very much except that Robert [Rodriguez] is still insistent that we’re going to make it and we’re going to make sure to put something in there for Brittany [Murphy] to recognize her,” the “Unstoppable” actress revealed. “Unfortunately it’s been so long now and she’s not with us anymore and she was a huge integral part to that first film, it would be important to do that.”

“I’m even more inspired to get it done now,” she added.

With the actors, filmmakers and fans all on board for the long-delayed, much-discussed potential sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller’s celebrated comic book noir, the sticking points likely involve studio dollars and scheduling.

Particularly for Rodriguez, who just came off “Machete” and is currently in the midst of “Spy Kids 4,” and constantly mentioned in the continuing “Deadpool” discussions. Nevertheless, he has insisted that it will never be too late for a “Sin City 2.”

“No, never, but I just don’t want to wait that long,” he said. “I know Frank doesn’t want to wait that long.”
